The Ryde Lunar New Year Celebration committee held a colourful and loud grand celebration day at Eastwood Plaza on a sunny Saturday with participation from thousands of people and many Chinese and Korean community groups who came outdoors after weeks of bad weather.
The committee was honoured to welcome the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China Duan Jielong and the Consul general of Republic of Korea Jin Soo Kim to the celebration, NSW Attorney General Greg Smith and Federal Bennelong MP John Alexander who all greeted the Ryde people enthusiastically in their speeches.
There were no less than 20 music, cultural and dance performances throughout the day directed by Program Director Wilson Fu with the highlight being the Jin Wu Koon high pole Lions, fire crackers and dragon parade, the film by CCTV and TVB Australia.
Committee president councillor Justin Li said “The organisers had initially faced some uncertain weather but we were determined to go ahead regardless. We are extremely happy with the result with people telling us that this year has been the most successful celebration in the four years the committee has been organising this event in terms of quality of the performances and public participation.”
